Description
"9041 Western Ave. from Wilshire Blvd.," 20 October 1924. The view is taken from an elevated position with Western Avenue going north towards the Santa Monica Mountains at the center and left. Crossing a short distance ahead is Wilshire Boulevard. At the lower right is the sales office for the Pellissier Square tract--on this site was later built the Pellissier Building, which contains the Wiltern Theater. On the east side of Western and north side of Wilshire is a commercial building housing the Standard Public Market and atop which are several large billboards. Commercial structures line Western in the distance including the William Wilson Company real estate office. Many automobiles and a bus are on the street, as well. Matching identifying inscriptions are written and typed (the latter on a taped-down label) are on the reverse. With tears, a missing lower left corner, creases, a major abrasion at the left of center and soiling, the condition is poor.
