2009.146.1.1Description
"Resolutions of the Legislature of California . . .," Senate Mis. Doc. No. 52, 33rd Congress, 1st Session, 10 May 1854. The item is a call to pass a law to select 500,000 acres of land for school purposes in California that were aproved by acts of Congress in 1851 and 1853. Among the reasons for so doing is that there was "a large foreign element in our population . . . ignorant of our policy, laws and language" and that education would deal with the perceived problem. The document was signed and approved by the Assembly speaker, Senate president and Governor John Bigler. With creases, foxing, and marks from being disbound, the condition is overall fair.Lexicon
