Description
A black and white photograph, "281. The Longest Wharf in the World, at Santa Monica," C. C. Pierce, ca. 1900s. The image is taken from an elevated location on the cliffs by the shore near the coastal town and shows the track moving from a rock berm at the water's edge to the long curving wooden wharf extending 4,600 feet into the ocean. A train is at one end by the shore and the loading facilities are at the ocean's end. There are boats at the end. The caption is partially hidden at lower left and Pierce's stamp is at the lower right of the reverse. With stains from mounting residue on the reverse corners, some staining on the image, soiling and minor rubbing, the overall condition is good.
