Description

A black and white photograph of a teenage Emilienne holding a gardening hoe, ca. 1916. Emiliene stands in the middle of an overgrown patch of grass with trees and other shrubbery surrounding her. She holds a gardening hoe on her right hand and carries it across her right shoulder. Emilienne wears overalls with a rolled up, long sleeved shirt and has her in an updo. An inscription on the reverse reads, "Em. The 1st world war farmnette. 1916." The year of 1916 was known for the most bloodiest of battles fought during World War I. A year later, the United States would officially enter the war. With a deep crease on the upper right corner, minor warping, ink writing, it is in good condition overall.
