Description
A black and white photograph of the San Francisco de Assisi Mission Church, Taos, New Mexico, ca. 1920s. The front facade of the adobe brick church shows the two projecting supports or buttresses with a large rounded doors and slim window at the top. On the top of the buttresses are bell towers. Portions of the side of the religious structure shows a shadow of a ladder on the ground cast agains the side wall and large timbers or vigas used as supports can be seen coming out of the side, at the top of the side of the church, near the roof area. A large white cross is on a stand and is stationed at the front of the church. Toward the left of the church is an upright headstone with a base and cross, toward the front of the church is another gravestone upright though smaller in size. The church was built in the later portion of the 1700s. It is said that the architecture of the church inspired Ansel Adams to photograph it and Georgia O'Keeffee to paint the structure. With minor soiling mostly on reverse, warping, inscription written in ink, photographer's stamp of "VELOX" and "8134," it is in good condition overall.
