Description

A black and white press photograph of Mrs. Russell and Lou Strohm's house, Los Angeles, 20 August 1922. The front facade is a large, upscale neoclassical home with a projecting front portico consisting of a half-dozen massive columns, French door opening on the ground floor, a large patio, double sets of wide steps leading to the residence from the street and more. A typed statement on the back notes that this was the "type of home . . . for which usual rental to movie companies is from $50 to $100 a day for interior and exterior shots." Another typed note identifies the owner as "Mrs. Russell of New York," that the home was in the Wilshire district and that it stood in for a New York house, although shooting had to avoid a palm tree on the median next to the street and that "the roof also spoils it for NY, Have to miss that too." Date stamps and other marking are also present. With heavy creasing at the corners, warping, a tear at the bottom right corner and light soiling, the overall condition is good.
