Description

A black and white real photo postcard, "Oil Derrick, Pico, Cal. 3872," The Western Card Company, Reedley, California, postmarked 3 October 1910. The image shows a wooden derrick and sheds in a steep canyon location with another well further up to the right, another lower at the center, and one atop the hill in the upper center. A message refers to the sender, George Heger [?], at Newhall, so the image would seem to be from Pico Canyon in what is now Santa Clarita, then known as the San Fernando field. The sender could have been an oil worker. With soiling, small stains, creasing, browning and abrasions, the condition is fair.
