Description

A black and white reproduced photograph of St. Nicholas Chapel, Rancho La Puente, ca. 1850s. A black and white photograph of St. Nicholas Chapel, ca. 1860s. The Gothic revival brick building is featured at left center with five towers along the side, four along the left, and one on the front right, red brick walls surrounding the chapel and shrubbery. The chapel was built by William Workman in El Campo Santo but was destroyed by a fire at the turn of the twentieth century. A lengthy description written in ink on the reverse, by Thomas W. Temple II notes that the chapel was built in 1857-58 and was dedicated to "San Nicolas" by Bishop Thaddeus Amat. With minor warping and stains on the reverse, it is in good condition.
