Description

A bound volume of "News of the Los Angeles-First National," Volume 5, July 1927 to June 1928. The company publication of Pacific Southwest Trust and Savings Bank and then Los Angeles-First National Bank, the item's masthead notes that it was "A Strictly Confidential Publication Issued for the Benefit of Officers, Board Members and Employees Only." The publication has news pertaining to the bank's customers, business, personnel, related companies, news from departments (commercial development, branches, trusts, etc.); and some more general news. The first issue has an article on the will of Henry E. Huntington, who had died shortly before, and whose trust was administered by Pacific Southwest, while issue eight notes the opening of the library and art gallery at San Marino on 27 January 1928. The second issue announced the merger of Pacific Southwest and First National. From the third issue, the publication was known as "News of the Los Angeles First National" and the "strictly confidential" tag was abandoned. The fourth issue has a photo and caption noting a river of water was found flowing under the Sixth and Spring office of the bank and that the Los Angeles River course was said to have flowed that way in very early days. The seventh issue notes the election of R. B. Hardacre as Executive Vice-President of the bank and this volume belonged to him, his name being imprinted on the front board. Issue ten makes reference to the St. Francis Dam disaster, including an account by the San Fernando branch manager. Other articles throughout document the construction of branch buildings in Huntington Park, Pasadena, Hollywood and other locales. With some stains, scratches, and rubbing to the boards and occasional tears on otherwise clean pages, the overall condition is good.
