Description
A cabinet card "108. Mission of San Gabriel, Erected 1775," James B. Blanchard, ca. 1890s. The image is taken from across Mission Drive, close to where the city hall stands, and takes in the entirety of the south elevation of the old stone church from the belfry at left to the exterior choir loft stairs at the right. An arbor with a vine of some type is at the left next to a picket fence; and there are several pepper trees along the building and street. A man, woman and child sit and stand on the stone foundation near the fence and below a stained glass window. Printed text about the mission and the photographer's information are on the reverse. With staining to the right and reverse, moderate fadingsoiling on the image, and edge abrasion, the overall condition is fair.
