Description
A cabinet card of five campers and a partially-clothed mule at Camp Chilao, San Gabriel Mountains, 1898. The view shows men gathered around the animal, whose forelegs are on a rough wood stool and who wears a hat, jacket and two pairs of pants. The scene is in a clearing in front of a rough log cabin. Chilao Flats is in the San Gabriel Mountains and now west of Highway 2 above La Cañada/Flintridge. With moderate soiling and rubbing to the matte, while the photo looks clean, the overall condition is good.
