Description
A cabinet card of six men and four packed mules in the San Gabriel Mountains, 1898. The group is in a wide clearing with pine trees behind them. On the reverse in ink is "Starting home / Great Divide, S.M. Mtns," the latter being Sierra Madre, the old name for the San Gabriel range. Presumably the location was somewhere near Chilao Flats and Mount Waterman where the group had hunted and camped With moderate soiling and abrasions to the matte, while the photo has a white horizontal line from exposure, the overall condition is good.
