Description

A cabinet card photograph, "302. Spring Street Looking South From Phillips Block," Los Angeles, Pierce & McConnell, ca. 1894. The view looks down the street and shows portions of downtown commercial structures, including much of the Nadeau Hotel at the right; horse-drawn vehicles; streetcars; and pedestrians. Advertisements on building sides include those for the Stoll-Thayer bookstore, a lace store, and a stove company, and a sign in the right foreground is for the competing studio of the Schumacher photography studio. Identifying stamps and labels for Culver Pictures, Inc. are on the reverse. With missing portions of the corner, abrasions, rubbing, soiling and some lightening of the right side of the image, the overall condition is fair.
