Description

A cabinet card photograph, "3155 Longstreet's Home, Los Angeles, Cal.," issued by Isaiah W. Taber, San Francisco, ca. 1880s. The view is taken from the middle of the entrance lane to the estate of Charles A. Longstreet off Adams Street and shows the dual rows of palm trees lining the roadway, part of which at left is lined with curbing and walks, while the right side is fully so, as they led to the house, part of which is seen in the distance. The palms, appearing to be about a dozen feet in height, became famed and some of them, now dozens of feet tall, still stand on part of the remaining roadway at Children's Hospital. The Longstreet estate, which included renowned gardens said to have been planted to a cost of over $100,000, was subdivided during the great land boom in the area in 1887. On the reverse is a stamp the "Culver Service" in New York. While the matte has abrasion and soiling, the photo appears clean and in good condition.
