Description
A cabinet card photograph, "599. The Oil Fields near First, Los Angeles, Calif.," Charles B. Waite, ca. 1890s. The view shows a couple dozen wooden derricks, tanks and asociated structures, commingled with trees and houses in the gently sloping hilly areas west and north of downtown. A road crosses left to right in the foreground and another at the right ascending the hill. The number, title and photographer's surname are in white at the bottom and the image is pasted down to a thick board. With very light soiling and abrasion, the overall condition is good.
