Description
A cabinet card photograph, "Avenue of Palms, Mrs. Longstreet's Grounds," Ellis and Son, Los Angeles, ca. 1885. The view is taken form wide dirt driveway leading to the two-story residence visible in the distance behind a tree and other landscaping. Flanking the drive are small palm trees, appearing to be recently planted. This "avenue of palms" became frequently photographed over the years, even after the property was sold and subdivided in 1887. Some of the trees and road survive today on the grounds of Children's Hospital. With curvature of the mount, moderate soiling, and edge abrasion, the overall condition is good.
