Description
A cabinet card photograph, "Lawns on Figueroa St," Los Angeles, Lemuel S. Ellis, ca. 1880s The view shows a sidewalk next to a driveway to an expansive property with a short iron fence. The visible portion of the lot is mainly grass with twq large palm trees in the middle. Partially obscured by one of the trees is a substantial two-story Queen Anne style house with a full porch at the first floor and a projecting balcony on the second. Bushes, shrubs and other trees are in front of it. Further down the street is part of another house. Branches from a pepper tree hang over the photographer and portions of another tree, the sidewalk and grass fringing it are also in view. The title is written in ink on the reverse, which also includes Ellis' stamp. With soiling, abrasions, dents and curvature of the mount, browning to the image, the overall condition is good.
