Description
A cabinet card photograph, "Los Angeles Oil District No 8A," Los Angeles, unattributed, but probably W. H. Graham, ca. 1890s. The view shows dozens of wooden derricks packed on sloping hillsides north and west of downtown Los Angeles. A horse-drawn wagon without the animal and with a metal tank on the back is next to a large wooden tank at the left. A couple of structures, perhaps houses, are on the hillside amidst the derricks and a road climbs the hill while another runs left to right along the bottom. The number and title are in white ink at the bottom and, though the photographer's name is not present, the style of lettering indicates W. H. Graham. The photo is pasted onto a gray album page and with some warping and minor soiling, the condiiton is good.
