Description

A cabinet card photograph of a log cabin, presumed near Los Angeles, ca. 1890s. The image shows the single story with partial attic structure among what appear to be pine trees in a mountain setting, perhaps the San Gabriels. Three men and a woman are near the open entrance which has a simple three-step stairway to it. The lower section is built of logs, while the upper portion has vertical board walls. Sash windows are found in several places. On the reverse is the cartouche of the Howland and Chadwick photographic supply house, where it is assumed the photo was printed. With a pin hole and imprint at the top, soiling, and stains, top left corner minor loss, and abrasions on the mount, darkening of the image, the condition is good overall.
