2012.498.1.1Description
A cabinet card photograph of a rendering of The Alhambra Hotel, Alhambra, California, Frank G. Schumacher, ca. 1888. The image shows two elevations of the corner-lot hostelry, which has a large corner tower and a complex multi-gabled roof system, extensive porches, and other features. A horse-drawn coach is shown at the left and, at the bottom left, is the name of the structure and its architect, C. H. Brown. The hotel, built in 1888 and destroyed by fire twenty years later, stood at the northwest corner of Garfield and Main streets, and was built by H. W. Stanton and partners. It contained fifty rooms on the second and third floors, had a view deck in the corner tower and stores, including the town post office, on the first floor. With some soiling, stains and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
