Description

A cabinet card photograph of a woman and girl on the porch of a Los Angeles house, Garden City Photo Company, ca. late 1890s. The image is taken from the street and captures the front elevation of the small wood-frame one-story (with attic) residence. At the top of the steps on the porch are a woman and a young girl. Behind the latter on the wall next to the door is a sign reading "Dress Making." There is a bare yard with no landscaping and enclosed with a simple wood post and chicken wire fence. Portions of outbuildings are in the background and the trunk of a tree at the foreground left. With fading (or poor exposure) to part of the image, extensive foxing and soiling to the mount and a cabinet photo portrait of a man transferred on the reverse, the condition is fair.
