Description

A cabinet card photograph of Dracena palms at a Los Angeles residence, ca. 1880s. The image shows a row of the trees along a wide driveway. Behind luxuriant landscaping are portions of a one-story wood frame residence, what may be a carriage house, and a windmill and water tower. A yard with many varieties of trees in partially in view at the right, but the location is not identified, other than "Adams Street." It is possible this is the Longstreet House, which was famed for its landscaping, but which was subdivided about 1887. There is a stamp for the Hollenbeck Book Store in the hotel building of that name on the reverse. With soiling, stains on the mount, and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.
