Description

A cabinet card photograph of Francis W. Temple (1848-1888), by Bradley and Rulofson in San Francsico, ca. 1870s. Temple was the second child of Antonia Margarita Workman (1830-1892) and F. P. F. Temple (1822-1880) and owned the Homestead from 1876 until his death in 1888. Temple, dressed in a dark three-piece suit with wide lapel and trimmed bow tie; a vest partially unbuttoned and from which hangs a watch chain or fob; white shirt; and dark trousers and shoes, stands leaning against a table with his right arm, while his left hand is behind his back and his right leg crossed over his left. To the left is an animal skin and an elaborately decorated table with a statue. Behind this small stand is drapery, while there appears to be a background screen with a faint pattern. The item includes the photographer's name printed on the reverse with an address. With surface soiling, acid burn, foxing, fading, and a fragment of paper pasted onto the photo surface towards the bottom edge, the object is in fair condition.
