Description
A cabinet card photograph of landscaping at a Los Angeles area residence, Ellis and Son, ca. 1885. The view is taken from a hedge-bordered driveway to the left of which is a broad lawn with many varieties of trees planted in it. At the left is a portion of a two-story wood frame residence of substantial size and there is a multi-sided tower to the right of the residence. At the end of the driveway to the right is probably a carriage house. Aside from the stamp of the studio, run by Lemuel Ellis and his namesake son, there are no identifying marks. With some stains, soiling, and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.
