Description

A cabinet card photograph of Maude Turner, James D. Westervelt, Los Angeles, 1889. The image shows the teenaged girl looking to her right in a head-and-upper torso view. She wears a black dress with a high neck and has a pendant around her neck. Her hair is long down below the shoulders. A pencil inscription on the reverse reads "Maude Turner / Actress / L.A. / 1889." This might be the daughter of William Turner and Sarah Rebecca Humphries, born in December 1872. Turner was the operator of the Workman Mill on Rancho La Puente from 1868 to 1874 and later co-owner of the Lambourn and Turner wholesale grocery. With significant moisture staining, soiling and edge abrasions, the condition is fair.
