Description

A cabinet card photograph of the crew aboard the firetruck of Los Angeles Fire Department Hose Company 7, Hollywood, Los Angeles, George W. Patterson, ca. 1911. The five men and a dog are standing on the vehicle, which was the first automotive fire vehicle in the Los Angeles force, parked in the middle of the street, with the white wood-sided fire house behind the group. The names "Joe" and "Al" are inscribed at the lower margin. On the reverse is an ink inscription reading "First Hollywood Fire House / when I first met Al / Al driving / Joe Shill on back of truck / was the mascot called 'Mitzie'." The station operated for three years, 1910-13, at 1560 N. Cahuenga at Selma before it was closed. With pinholes at the matte's sides and edge abrasions, the condition is good.
