Description
A cabinet card photograph of two male hunters, presumed in the San Gabriel Mountains, ca. 1890s. The two are with pairs of horses and mules at what looks to be a campsite. One man is mounted on a mule at left and the other stands holding the bridles to a mule and a horse at left and has a rifle perched on his right shoulder. The men wear sport jackets and trousers tucked into gaiters and each has on vests, shirts and ties and also have cross-body hunting bags and felt hats. The two may be father and son. On the reverse is the cartouche of the Howland and Chadwick photographic house in Los Angeles, where the photo was likely printed. With some stains on the reverse, minor soiling and abrasions, heavy fading, the overall condition is fair.
