Description
A cabinet card photograph ot the St. Louis Carriage Works, Los Angeles, Garden City Foto Co., ca. 1900s. The view is taken from an intersection and captures the plain one-story wood structure with a taller front facade, atop which is the firm's name and that of its principal, Henry W. Doerge, a native of St. Louis, Missouri. Doerge is presumably on the front sidewalk with four other men and a horse and buggy parked along the curb. Part of a coal, wood and hay dealer's shop is next door. On the reverse is a pencil inscription that the location was the corner of Palmetto and Seaton, east of Alameda and between 5th and 6th streets. With minor fading, soiling and slight edge abrasions, the condition is good.
