Description
A cabinet card photograph, "S.C. University, Los Angeles," Stanton and Burdick, ca. 1889. The view shows an early U.S.C. structure, being a three-story with basement building surmounted by a bell tower over the entrance, set amid a landscape of trees and dirt. In the foreground are three boys and two girls standing in an open dirt area, while a man leans against the entrance stairs. The structure, built in 1884 was the sole college building and known as the "Old College" before becoming the Liberal Arts building and was razed in 1948. The photographer's names and address are printed at the bottom of the mount. On the reverse are an ink inscription with the title and a stamp with the name and address of Souder Brothers book and stationery store. With some stains and soiling on the image and foxing, soiling, abrasions and curvature of the matte, the general condition is fair.
