Description

A cabinet card portrait of Jennie Fogal, Bisbee, Los Angeles, ca. 1888. The full-length portrait shows the subject standing with her right arm leaning against a classical-style pedestal and in front of a backdrop. She wears a dark outfit, including a floor-length skirt, a top with a high collar, bead work on the breast, many buttons down the front, a brooch at the collar, and a rose corsage at the front. A pen inscription on the reverse reads, "Jennie Fogal Duncan." Fogal was born to Andrew Fogal and Phoebe Bruch in 1868 and the family resided at Green Meadows in south Los Angeles. After Andrew Fogal died in 1874, his widow married Charles Davis, a ranch hand about 19 years her junior and Jennie lived with them until her marriage in 1890 to Henry Duncan. Later she married Martin Pfeiffer and Jennie died in 1945. With some minor soiling and abrasions, the overall condition is good.
