Description

A cabinet card portrait of [Sarah] Louise Fogal, Bisbee, Los Angeles, ca. 1888. The full-length portrait shows the subject standing with her right arm resting on a classical-style pedestal and in front of a backdrop while an ornately carved sidechair is to the right. She wears a dark outfit, including a floor-length skirt, a top with a high collar, many buttons down the front, a brooch and a bow tied at the collar, and a corsage at the front. A pen inscription on the reverse reads, "Louise Fogal." Fogal was born to Andrew Fogal and Phoebe Bruch in 1870 and the family resided at Green Meadows in south Los Angeles. After Andrew Fogal died in 1874, his widow married Caleb Davis, a ranch hand about 19 years her junior and Jennie lived with them until her marriage to Marvin Wiggins in 1892. Later she married Martin Pfeiffer and Louise died in 1957. With some minor fading, soiling, stains, and abrasions, the overall condition is good.
