A black and white cabinet card studio portrait of a brother and sister, Frank Hardesty, Orange, California, ca. 1890s. The young boy is approximately thirteen years old. He wears a high-buttoned striped suit, white shirt, necktie, and holding a plain hat at his left kneee, sitting on a chair or other piece of furniture covered with something with long strands, almost like plant material. The girl, about six years old, wears a full-length white dress with puffed shoulders and gathered sleeves, and she holds a branch with leaves in her left hand. Rocks from the ocean and plant-like material on the floor evoke a naturalistic scene in the studio. With a few stains on the reverse, minor soiling, and moderate abrasions and darkening of hte image, the condition is good.Lexicon
