Description
A cabinet card studio portrait of a carpenter, Stanton and Burdick, Los Angeles, ca. 1888. The mustachioed man wears work trousers, a white apron or work covering, and a hat tilted far back on his head, standing next to a fence prop in the studio. In his left hand he holds a saw with the blade end touching the floor. In this right hand and hooked over his left shoulder he holds a framing square. The style of the cartouche for the photographers indicates the assumed date. With heavy fading and staining to the image and gouges, and abrasions to the matte's backing from pasting into an album, the condition is poor.
