Description

A cabinet card studio portrait of a man with muttonchops, James D. Westervelt, Los Angeles, ca. 1885-1889. The head-and-shoulder view of the subject, perhaps in his thirties, shows him wearing a high-buttoned wood coat, a shirt with a detachable collar and a necktie with a horseshoe-shaped pin. He is balding and has very thick muttonchops which extend several inches from the face to a point. With pin holes at the top and bottom, minor foxing, soiling, and edge abrasions, the condition is good overall.
