There is a row of three horizontal, ruffled pleats on her skirt. She holds the tip of an umbrella with the handle at the ground with her left hand. Her name is in pencil on the reverse with an inscription in German giving her age as 8 1/2 years. Lauth was the daughter of Adele Harbeck (see item .1 of the accession) and Philip Lauth, the latter a Los Angeles brewer before his 1886 death. Adele Dorothy later became a piano teacher.
