Description
A cabinet card studio portrait of Adele Harbeck Lauth, Valentine Wolfenstein, Los Angeles, ca. 1875. The image shows the subject leaning against the arm of a velvet couch and there is part of a wood side chair with an embroidered back in front. She wears a long grayish dress with a large bustle and lace sleeves and a front piece attached near the high collar. Her name is in pencil on the reverse above Wolfenstein's cartouche. Lauth, a native of Holstein, Germany, was married to Philip Lauth, who was a brewer in Los Angeles before his 1886 death and she remained in the city and never married again. With some very small stains on the reverse and some soiling and abrasions the condition is good.
