2011.456.1.1Description
A cabinet card studio portrait of L.B. Harden and "lady", Sunbeam Art Gallery, Los Angeles, ca. 1895. The head-and-shoulder view reveals Harden in a black coat, vest and bow tie and a white dress shirt. He had short middle-parted hair with short curls in front and a thick brush mustache. The lady had curly hair, pulled up in the back, and wore a dark-colored patterened dress with a wide patterned bib and a high collar with a brooch at the center. An inscription on the reverse reads: "L.B. Harden / Wiseburn P.O. / Los Angeles, Cal / S.B. 16x20 / 3.96 / Lady." Wiseburn is a district south of Los Angeles and bounded roughly by El Segundo Boulevard on the north, Rosecrans Avenue on the south, Inglewood Avenue on the east, and La Cienega Boulevard/Interstate 405 on the west, near present El Segundo and Hawthorne. With residue from an envelope on the reverse, stains, soiling, and edge wear on the matte, but a clean image, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
