Description
A cabinet card studio portrait of the Hermann and Maria Schieber family, Sunbeam Art Studio, Los Angeles, March 1893. The image shows the husband and wife seated with two daughters behind them, a daughter and son to the sides and a son in the front. There is a pastoral scene backdrop and what looks like an animal skin rug in front. On the reverse is the date and city and a message in German with the names of the couple and the recipient, a relative of Mrs. Schieber. The Schliebers lived in Texas where Herman was a carpenter at one time before coming to Los Angeles about 1885, where Herman was a merchant and farmer. By 1900, they were in Pasadena on a farm and Herman died before 1915, while his widow remained in the city before moving back to Los Angeles. With minor stains on the matte, as well as soiling, and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.
