Description

A cabinet card studio portrait of two brothers, Alfred P. Newdick, Los Angeles, ca. 1890s. The image is of approximately nine and seven year old boys, both with close cropped haircuts and matching suits with wide white collars, black jackets with piping, black trousers and large patterned necties. Newdick's cartouche is at the lower margin and the photographer was born in 1848 in Suffolk, England. Migrating to the U.S. in 1852, he lived in New York and married Caroline Webb in Illinois in 1873. He lived in New York City until about 1888 when he was in Los Angeles and remained there until about 1900, after which he lived in Alameda County and San Francisco. With abrasions on both children, staining, soiling and light matte wear, the overall condition is fair.
