Description
A cabinet card studio portrait of two sisters by Tuttle and Company's Helio-Art Studio, Los Angeles, ca. 1879. The view shows the two, appearing to be about mid-teen years and a couple of years apart in age, in a studio with a backdrop of floral vines on a building. One girl stands at left and holds flowers in her left hand. The other sits on a rustic wood chair and has a large book in her lap with the left hand resting on the back cover. Both wear similarly decorated dresses with different lace collars and both have flowers in their hair. At the bottom is the word "Heliograph" and its use and the studio name "Helio-Art," apparently refers to photography generally, rather than a particular process. The firm's cartouche is on the reverse. With soiling, small stains on the reverse, moderate browning, and edge abrasions, the overall condition is good.
