Description

A cabinet photo of a Los Angeles hay and feed store, C.J. Coules, ca. 1900s. The view shows two men and a child in front of the simple wood structure, which has its double doors open. To the left of the opening is an older man in probably his sixties. To the right is a man perhaps in his forties standing next to a bale of hay on which is the young girl, likely around three or four years old, who holds a cat in her arms. Other hay bales, stacked sacks and other items, includnig signs on the building for coal and "Seneca stock powder," are of note. The street number "737" is over the entry. With substantial foxing, stains, soiling, rubbing, a missing corner piece and creases, while the photo has an indentation at the lower center and some soiling, the condition is fair overall.
