Description
A cabinet photo of the interior of the South Main Street Methodist Church, Los Angeles, ca. 1905. The view shows many of the wooden pews set an angle toward a corner of the room where the podium sits on an elevated platform. At the left is a five-paneled stained glass window and at the right are some doors and a second-floor space. In between these floors is a banner for the church's Sunday School and there are some plan-material swags there and over to the stained glass window. On the reverse is the photographer's stamp. The church, called Harmony initially, was rededicated under its new name in 1905 and was located at the corner of Main and 53rd streets in south Los Angeles. Notably, its pastor, W. B. Bell, vanished before the rededication ceremony in September, and left his wife and the church for undisclosed personal reasons. With minor soiling and edge abrasions to the matte, the condition is good.
