Description
A cabinet card photograph, J. S. Keefer subdivision, Monrovia, 1887. A photograph by C. H. Shaffner, 26 South Spring Street, Los Angeles. The prospective buyers gathered on dirt grounds in front of a large sales tent and sign with Keefer's name and subdivision, the ocean view subdivision. The tracts and lots of early Monrovia were being sold at this location. There are men gathered around a stack of papers, a woman in the foreground with a parasol and ridicule, as well as adolescent boys. Some of the men wear top hats and bowler hats. The photograph is faded towards the top, perhaps from developing. The item is generally in fair condition with corner abrasion and surface soiling.
