Description
A cabinet photograph, "Los Angeles Oil District no8A," William Graham/Charles Beal, Los Angeles, ca. 1890s. The image is taken from across the street looking at a low hill filled with dozens of wooden derricks, tanks, what appears to be a pipeline in the foreground and at least one house at the center. To the left, on a derrick and horse-drawn tank cart, are signs reading "Turner Brothers," this being a firm that extensive properties in the city, in Whittier and in Little Sespe Canyon in Kern County and which was involved in the Densmore-Stabler refinery (of which there is a photo in the museum collection.) With stains, soiling and rubbing on the mount and a lightly soiled image, the general condition is good.
