Description

A cabinet photograph of a funeral procession leaving a church, presumed to be in southern California, ca. 1890s. The image shows a large and ornately ornamented church from which people are exiting a door at the corner tower and following a caravan of horse-drawn vehicles moving up a street and with the hearse, led by white horses, at the head. People stand in the street and along its sides observing and there appear to be a few hundred persons present. Some tall trees and portions of nearby homes and perhaps another church are also in view. There is no hint as to location and no inscriptions, but the seller indicated it came from a collection of southern California photos. With some minor stains, soiling, slight curvature and edge abrasion, the overall condition is good.
