Description

A cabinet photograph of people on a road in Monrovia, California, Marcus A. Shaffner, Los Angeles, ca. 1890. The view is taken from near what looks like a rough lean-to shelter and takes in a few horse-drawn wagons and persons standing or next to a dirt road extending towards some hills a house in the distance. Down the road a bit are two men standing with what appears to be a map, perhaps for a subdivision or tract planned for the area. Printed at the bottom of the mount is "Photographed Especially for / L.H. Green & Co." and then separately "Investment Bankers / Monrovia," as well as Shaffner's California Series stamp. With stains on the far right of the photo, soiling on the image, both on the reverse, and edge rubbing, the overall condition is good.
