2013.822.1.1Description
A cabinet photograph of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Los Angeles, ca. 1900s. The view takes in much of the north and west elevations of the Romanesque structure at the northeast corner of Sixth and Hill street, with the photographer on Sixth at the southwest corner. A horse-drawn carriage with two persons in it is in view, as are persons near the Sixth Street entrance to the church, suggesting they'd just exited the structure. The church, completed about 1898, remained at the site until it moved in 1923 to the southwest corner Hope and 8th, where it remained until that building was razed in 1983 and a parking lot is there now. On the reverse in ink is "First M.E. Church Los Angeles." With moderate yellowing to the image, slight fading, warping, a few small stains, soiling and light rubbing, the condition is fair condition.
