Description

A cabinet studio portrait of a man, Eugene W. Fortune, Los Angeles, ca. 1890s. The head-and-shoulder view is of a man in likely his twenties or thirties, who wears a high-buttoned short-lapel light-colored patterned coat, white shirt and a striped necktie. Fortune, born in 1857 in Minnesota, was a school teacher and photographer in Newaygo County, Michigan before migrating to Los Angeles by 1888. He continued photography until the late 1900s, but was also a farmer, realtor and deputy county assessor. Fortune passed away in the 1930s. With some soiling, yellowing, foxing and edge abrasions, the condition is fair.
