A cigar box made in California, Christmas 1891. The lacquered box, made in California, has the year in red within an ornate design on the lid. At the front is the phrase "Compliments of the Season" engraved into the wood. On the inside of the lid are brightly colored flowers and the phrase "A Merry Christmas & Happy New Year." The inside is lined with green paper and there are metal hinges and a metal clasp. On the bottom is a stamp of a grizzly bear reading "Factory No. 265, First District of California" and a paper label, partially torn, with the same information and a notice prohibiting reuse of the box for cigars and for removing contents without destroying the stamp or label. With many scratches, fading, cracking, and other wear, the condition is fair.
