Description
A copy negative of a Southern Pacific Railroad locomotive, Los Angeles, 1915. The view is a close-up of the engine and portions of a few cars behind it, with an engineer at the helm. The numbers "79" and "3064" are lettered on elements of the front of the locomotive. The car was an A3-class 4-4-2 Atlantic steam engine, manufactured by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and there were fifty-one used by the railroad from about 1907 until the early 1950s to pull passenger trains, though when larger locomotives came along, these were used for lighter duty on commuter trains and branch lines. The condition appears good.
